 **URGENT ACTION CALL**

ATTENTION YUMA AREA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®

This Tuesday, September 29, 2009, you have a LOCAL opportunity to attend a special meeting of the Arizona Corporation Commission as they hear from the public on a proposed APS rate case requesting an increase on electric utility rates.

But more importantly, the five Commissioners will take public comments about reversing their 2007 rule change which discontinued the 50-year practice of electric utility companies providing up to 1,000 feet of transmission wire for new residential hookups, which has helped grow the state’s electric grid, particularly in communities outside of Maricopa County.

This rule change means that property owners now pay new hookup fees ranging from thousands, to tens of thousands of dollars for electric service, regardless of the distance from utility pole to service box.  In some cases, the cost of electricity now exceeds the purchase price of the parcel.

If the Commission decides to rescind their 2007 decision, it would restore the electric utilities’ traditional practice of providing extensions up to 1,000 feet of hook up access for new service.  Join your fellow REALTORS® from the Yuma County area.  Add your voice to this statewide REALTOR® effort on behalf of Arizona’s private property owners and your clients.
