Guidelines for Vounteer Petition Signature Gathering

Guidelines For Volunteer Petition Signature Gathering

·        The top of the front page of the petition should have no blanks and must be filled out entirely.  Please fill in the blanks with the initiative information, including the county in which you are gathering signatures.  You also need to check the box “VOLUNTEER” before circulating the petition.

·        Only registered voters can sign the petition, but they do not have to fill in their address personally.  You can offer to fill in that information for the voters, but they must sign their own names, and you must make sure each signature is properly dated.

·        Voters must sign the petition that is designated with the county in which they are registered to vote.  For example, a voter who lives in Prescott cannot sign a petition that is designated for Maricopa County; rather, that voter must sign a petition designated for Yavapai County.

·        Voters can only sign a petition for this initiative once.  If an individual is not registered to vote, that person can fill out a voter registration form and then sign the petition the same day.

·        The initiative language must be attached to each petition at all times.

·        The petition circulator must personally witness the voters filling out and signing the petitions.

·        Once a petition sheet is complete, the circulator must fill out and sign the affidavit on the back of the petition.  The circulator must sign the back of the petition in front of a notary.  Circulators are not required to be registered voters, but they must be eligible to register to vote.  If there are any errors in the circulator’s affidavit or qualifications, the entire petition sheet is invalid, so be careful with this part of the petition.
