A majority of the Aspen City Council approved an extension of the city’s 1 percent Real Estate Transfer Tax.

The tax, which was set to sunset in the next few years, would be extended for another 30 years through 2040.

The tax is used to fund employee housing.

Aspen voters will get a chance to weigh in on the extension on the November ballot.
